Hélène Delprat: I Did It My Way

La maison rouge presents the first major exhibition of works by Hélène Delprat in Paris, titled I Did It My Way. Dark, funny and fantastic, the exhibition includes films, mirrors, paintings, voice overs, radiophonic drawings, birds’ heads, photocopies, all of which become a part of the artist’s world. Hélène Delprat’s art is in the realm of fantastical, impenetrable beings, a procession of surprises, disorientations, excesses and simple things, of odds and ends, of memories of cinema, theatre, paintings and pop songs. Inspired by literature from Ovid’s The Metamorphoses to more contemporary works by Mary Shelley and Virginia Woolf, but also films, internet, radio and media, the exhibition feels a little like being in a dream that is simultaneously frightening and funny.
