Beyond the Stars: The Mystical Landscape from Monet to Kandinsky

Organised by the Musée d’Orsay in collaboration with the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, this soulful exhibition will look at Western symbolist paintings of landscape and nature in an entirely new light. Stepping away from rational explanations, the exhibition will evoke the links between depictions of landscapes and nature and the painter’s quest for the mystical, inner peace and transcendence. Works by Gauguin, Monet, Maurice Denis, Ferdinand Hodler, Klimt, Munch and van Gogh, will be accompanied by artists from the Canadian school of the 1920s and 1930s, such as Lawren Harris, Tom Thomson and Emily Carr.
