Exhibition
David Hockney Retrospective at Centre Pompidou
A retrospective of artist David Hockney’s work opened last week at Centre Pompidou. This comprehensive exhibition includes more that 200 works by the artist who just celebrated his 80th birthday. These include his iconic paintings of swimming pools and double portraits as well as the more recent Yorkshire landscapes. While you are at the Centre Pompidou, do take time out to visit the retrospective of American photographer Walker Evans’s work and the brilliant photographic experiments by Steven Pippin at the free photography exhibition in the basement Gallery of Photographs.

“Jardins” at the Grand Palais
An intimate multidisciplinary exhibition, Jardins lets the visitors explore and experience artistic representations and interpretations of gardens in photographs, paintings, films and installations as also some early botanical studies.
While you are at the Grand Palais, do visit the comprehensive retrospective of Auguste Rodin’s work, organised to commemorate the death centenary of the master sculptor. Rodin: The Centenary Exhibition also includes works by Baselitz, Bourdelle, Picasso, Brancusi, Matisse, Giacometti, Beuys and Gormley, shedding light on Rodin’s influence on contemporary and subsequent generation of artists.
Music Festivals
Days off 2017
The eight edition of the music festival Days Off kicks off this Friday. From June 30 to July 10, 2017, Philharmonie de Paris will be host to performances by Air, Metronomy, Lady Sir (Rachida Brakni & Gaëtan Roussel), Savages, Devendra Banhart, Michael Kiwanuka and more. The entire schedule is available here.
Other music festivals to not miss out this weekend include the Macki Music Festival (June 30 to July 2) and the Paris Jazz Festival which runs until the end of July.
Dance
Clignancourt danse sur les rails
A beautiful and hidden garden Jardins du Ruisseau will be open exceptionally to the public this weekend (July 1 and 2, 2017) for the festival Clignancourt danse sur les rails. Expect two days of dance performances, local food and craft beers, and a grand ball to finish things off. Jardins du Ruisseau is on the Petite Ceinture, next to La Recyclerie and the Saint-Ouen Flea Market in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
While you are at it, do check out the multicultural programme of Quartiers en cultures being held in the 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements of Paris. Highlights include musical and dance performances by Collectif La Chapelle at Esplanade Nathalie Sarraute (75018) on July 1, 2017 and a series of cultural and artistic events at Le Centquartre (75019) on July 8, 2017.
Festival du Film de Fesses
The fourth edition of Parisian erotic film festival Le Festival du Film de Fesses kicks off this week on June 29, 2017. This year’s edition will feature international and French films (short and long formats) with sexuality, intimacy and erotism as their themes. On until July 2, the programme is available here.
Malasie en Fete 2017
A festival to celebrate the Malaysian culture and arts, La Malasie en Fete will be held this Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Jardin d’Acclimatation. Perfect for all age groups, the workshops include a cooking class by Malaysian chef Norman Musa, traditional batik painting and kite making. For details, visit the event’s Facebook page.
